Frequently Asked Questions
All you need to know about our services
We often receive questions about hair extensions, recipient's hair prior to application, hair care, after care in general - and much more.
We've tried to answer your most common questions below.
-
Will I need a half, 3/4 or full head of micro ring Russian Hair Extensions?"A half head of micro ring Russian hair extensions is for those wishing to create volume rather than length. 3/4 of a head can be used for those who already have relatively long hair and are only looking to increase the length by a couple of inches or so. A full head of micro ring Russian hair extensions is advisable for those wishing to increase the length of their hair considerably and achieve a full and natural look.
-
Should I have any extra strands of Russian hair extensions applied?Generally 150 strands is plenty for a full head of Russian hair extensions. However if your hair is very short or thick or you'd just like a little extra volume you may choose to have a few extra strands applied. This can be done at a cost of £3 per strand of single drawn Slavic Russian hair or £5 per strand of double drawn Slavic Russian hair.
-
What does the term 'virgin hair' mean?Virgin hair is hair that has never been dyed or processed.
-
What does the term 'remy hair' mean?Remy hair is hair that has got it's cuticles aligned correctly this is very important as hair with the cuticles running in different directions will matt and tangle very easily. All of our Slavic Russian hair extensions are remy.
-
How long does my hair need to be to have Micro Ring Hair Extensions?Hair should be at least 3-4 inches long otherwise the micro rings will be visible.
-
Which length of hair should I choose for my micro ring Russian hair extensions? For most people 18 inches is plenty long enough. This would bring your hair down to approximately bra strap level on your back. Some people choose to have longer Russian hair extensions, but it is not advisable to go much over twice the length of your own hair, as this can put added strain on your hair and often looks unnatural.
-
Are Micro ring Russian hair extensions suitable for all hair types?Micro ring Russian hair extensions are suitable for the majority of hair types however, they may not be suitable for people with very thin hair.
-
Can anyone have micro ring Russian hair extensions?Clients who have alopecia or hair loss problems are not suitable for micro ring hair extensions. Clients with ezcema on the scalp, who are pregnant, who have had a baby within the last 6 months and those with very weak hair (breakage within the first inch of hair growth) are not suitable for micro ring Russian hair extensions.
-
Can I dye my Russian hair extensions once they are applied? Our Russian hair extensions dye very well. Many of our clients have coloured their Russian hair extensions a number of times with no problems. It is always recommended that lightening of our Russian hair extensions should be done by a professional hair colourist.
-
Can I dye my roots/regrowth while I have micro ring Russian hair extensions in?Yes. you can use an all over tint on the roots as you normally would, or highlights can be done on the T-section.
-
How long will the hair extension consultation last?A consultation usually takes around 30 minutes. We advise at the end of the consultation that if you have any further questions you should text them to Eleanor on: 07505 403384 or send an email to eleanorpurcell@ymail.com.
-
How long will it take to have my micro ring Russian hair extensions fitted? This varies depending on the length and thickness of a clients hair. You should allow approximately 4 hours including blending for a full head, 3 hours for 3/4 head and 2 hours for half a head of micro ring Russian hair extensions.
-
How long can I keep my micro ring Russian hair extensions in for?The micro ring hair extension application method is the ideal solution to long term hair extension wear. However, it is important that the extensions are re tightened every 3-4 months in order to avoid unnecessary damage to the natural hair. If well cared for our Russian hair extensions can be expected to last anywhere between 1 and 2 years and possibly longer.
-
Can I supply my own hair extensions? We are happy to fit your own hair extensions for a charge of between £120 and £180 depending on the number of hair extension strands. However, please make sure that you know what you are buying. There are many hair extensions on the market that have been acid dipped to make the hair finer and then silicone coated to make them look shiny and nice. After a few washes the coating washes off and the hair extensions become dull, fluffy and matted. These then have to be taken out and thrown away, which in the long run really doesn't save any money. Any hair extensions named only as 'remy hair' with a grade listing are likely to be Chinese hair that has been chemically treated. Indian hair is slightly better in quality but does not have the same softness, body and life span as our Slavic Russian hair extensions.
-
Will the micro rings show? The micro rings are small flat metal tubes that are closely matched to the colour of your own hair. We use 6mm copper rings which are slightly longer but more lightweight and flat than the standard ones. These are placed to lie flat against your head, so that the top layer of your hair conceals them.
-
Will I be able to feel the micro ring hair extensions and do they feel uncomfortable? For the first couple of days the micro ring hair extensions may feel a little strange. It usually takes a week or so for you to really get used to them. This however, is surely a small price to pay for beautiful long, thick hair. Many clients have stated that after a couple of weeks, their micro ring Russian hair extensions feel just like their own hair.
-
Will the micro ring hair extensions come out?Micro ring hair extensions are very secure, we use 6mm copper micro rings which are generally even more secure than the standard ones. Occasionally one or two may slip out over the course of the 3-4 month period. If this does happen we offer a monthly maintenance appointment where these can be replaced and any loose hair extensions can be re tightened.
-
Where are your Russian hair extensions sourced from?Eleanor uses Russian hair that is ethically sourced from the Slavic population in regions of Russia and the Ukraine. We have used the same trusted supplier for 7 years now. The Russian hair is delivered to us in ponytails, we then carefully draw, colour blend and pre bond the hair by hand in order to offer a unique, customised service for each client. Russian hair extensions are considered to be the best hair extensions especially for women of caucasian ethinicity as it matches perfectly with the fine, silky texture.
-
What is the difference between 'single drawn hair extensions', 'twice drawn hair extensions' and 'double drawn hair extensions'?"Single drawn hair is hair that is taken straight from the donors head and contains a percentage of shorter hairs. This is how the hair grows naturally. The shortest hairs only are removed. Twice drawn hair is where all the hairs shorter than half the overall hair length has been removed. Double drawn hair is where all hairs shorter than the overall length have been removed. We draw all the hair by hand. Twice drawn hair is better than single drawn hair because the bottom of the hair is thicker. Double drawn Russian hair extensions are the absolute best available. The strands are all the same thickness from bottom to top and the drawing out of the shorter hairs means that there are no dry ends through the length of the russian hair extensions.
-
What is the Premium micro ring Russian hair extension service and why is it more expensive? Our full head premium micro ring hair extension service uses all double drawn hair. We use up to 180 strands (30 more than a normal full head). The strands are of varying thickness, with extra thick hair extension strands on the bottom layers of your hair and standard ones through the middle part. We specially make up smaller strands for the top layer and front of your hair which can be used with our special micro ringlets. These smaller strands match better with the finer hair around the hair line and are less likely to be visible than the larger ones. This is also a perfect option for those wishing to extend or add volume to a fringe.
